I defend some aspects of using llms but even this is too much for me.
LLM’s are good for some things, a more efficient search engine replacement, vibe coding at a hobbyist level, and, apparently, allowing morons to have friends without expending effort.

Actually, only that last one is really true. The first is only technically true since Google effectively killed its search. The second one falls apart as soon as they want to upgrade or need to fix something that breaks.

No, I’m with them. It’s weird to clap. Nobody who had a hand in your safe landing can hear you. The pilots can’t really hear much from the passengers in most aircraft, and are likely focusing on tons of other things.

Out of all the dumb shit people do on planes, we’re focusing on people standing too long? How about the assholes that rush forward to get off in front of you? How about the people who act like they’ve never flown before and take a fucking year to get off the plane? I feel like standing when it’s seen as pointless is about the least annoying thing done on a flight.
I mean, as long as you’re standing out of the way that’s perfectly fine to stretch your legs. Just don’t stand in the aisle while people are trying to get bags and move toward the front.

You check luggage? Not everyone does. I just took a three week trip with a backpack that fits under the seat and a carry on. Waiting for luggage is so awful. What good is getting off the plane quickly? I mean how are people so okay with flying several hours then waiting minutes more just to stand. I want to be moving and stretching, to get home and shower. Last thing I wanna do is sit 10 more minutes because people are slow

To clarify, I’m saying if I’m ready to get my bag down from the overhead compartment then I save everyone behind me like 15 seconds of their lives. I thought this would be a good thing. I know that looks dumb but I find it painful to sit for long periods of time and they don’t let you be stand around on the plane. I always get an aisle seat so that I can stand as soon as it lands. I know I’m not going anywhere for awhile but I can’t sit any longer.
The aisle seat idea is pretty smart. I’m at a point in my life where, depending on my total travel time up to that point, it can be very important to stand up to let my hips straighten out for a while, even if we’re 15 minutes away from leaving the plane.
I mean, for all you know he had an agent set up to take that cue and send personalized messages to his spouse, boss, and mistress in his current town, letting them all know of his arrival.

Its pretty eye opening for many. Did a dry run with a professional development group and there are a lot of old ladies worried about their son or grandkids AI psychosis.

Perhaps the Person had ChatGPT coach them through their fear of flying. I’m not saying it’s not sad that people resort to getting emotional support from a robot, but I wouldn’t condemn their actions if that were the case.
That’s what came to mind first. Chatgpt basically saved my marriage. I was confused by the strange contradicting behaviors of my wife and all the non communication and i asked and within one second it not only told me what the issue is she is struggling with most likely but recommended a matching book. I was pretty aceptical but ordered the book… And it read like our personal diary. Kinda creepy actually how much it matched our life. That feels like a turning point. Things are still pretty rocky but i feel like its getting better slowly.
Nobody who uses these chat bots knows how they work.

Not that I endorse wasteful use of AI, but they were on a plane. It’s not like they care about their impact on the planet.
A plane does something useful. The hallucination machine is a waste in nearly all aspects.
A plane is a bus that is fast, can fly, and can traverse great distances. An LLM spews statistically accurate looking language with no regard for accuracy or content. These are not the same. One is objectively useful even if its common current incarnation pollutes a lot.
